Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, had a jungle-themed room and if it’s good enough for the King, then it’s good enough for anyone. You may be hesitant to make your own jungle room because you’re worried that it might look tacky or cheap, but that’s just not true. Today’s designers are making pieces that look more elegant and expensive, and will fit into just about any budget. Whether you’re making a jungle bedroom for kids or one for yourself, you’ll find ideas that work with your style.
Start your jungle themed room with the right bedding. If you wait until the room is painted, you might have trouble finding bedding in colors that won’t clash with the wall shades, especially if you opt for neutral paint colors. Cheetah or lion print bedding works well in a jungle bedroom, but you may want something less wild or splashy. In that case, look for bedding in a dark green or even those with a faint leaf print. If you’re decorating a room for kids, top off the bedding with a few stuffed jungle animals, like tigers, lions, bears and even monkeys.
Walls and Floor
Paint the walls in a neutral shade for a more upscale, adult look. Use a shade of beige or tan that compliments the colors of your bed linens and accessories. For children’s rooms, opt for a shade of green that works with the other colors of the room. Then add a few cutouts of animals and other jungle scenes on the walls. Use decorative rugs on the floors in shades of mossy green and in leaf style shapes. Overlap the rugs slightly, to provide more contrast to the jungle themed bedroom.
Disney Family Fun has an idea for a jungle kid’s room that involves cutting leaf shapes from different shades of green foam. You arrange the foam leaves around the top of the window, then hang a rolled piece of brown paper across the top as a vine for a quick and easy window valance. For an adult room, make your own canopy using mosquito netting. Hang the netting from the ceiling, at each corner of the bed. Drape the netting around the bed to provide a little privacy that works with the jungle theme. Add other jungle accessories around the room, including bamboo lamps and carved wood animal figures.
