Christmas is a time to come together as a family. One way to make your holiday planning even more special is to include time to make decorations together as a family for the Christmas tree. A great ornament that can be made by members of the family of all ages is a personalized picture frame to hang on the tree. In it you can include a picture of a loved one, give a picture of yourself to a loved one, or a picture of the whole family. Its a simple craft that can be done as simply or ornately. Its a great opportunity to allow out your creative side. One great tip for those less artistically inclined is to raid the sticker section of the craft shop near the scrap booking materials. Usually there are a lot pre-made and organized designs and lettering that you just have to place on the frame to make it look great.
– 1 or 2 pieces of card stock (either a solid color or a pattern of your preference
– 1 family picture cut to the preferred size
– Sparkly markers, string, stickers, or any other type of decorative item to personalize the “frame” of the picture
– Double sided tape to adhere the picture to the card stock and ribbon to card stock
– 1 piece of ribbon
Step 1: Trim the photo to the desired size (I would recommend trimming the photo so there is at least an inch of border of card stock around the photo on each size. If you have a papercutter, this can help you keep edges straight, if not try to place the card stock against a corner of a table to help keep the lines straight.)
Step 2: Adhere the photo to the card stock with tape or glue stick and allow to dry
Step 3: Use decorative items to personalize the frame of the photo with names and messages (you can use glitter or stickers from the scrap booking section of the store/craft store (I.e Target or Walmart) to give the frame some extra holiday spirit.
Step 4: Cut ribbon to the appropriate length and use double sided tape to adhere in a loop shape to the back of the picture frame toward the top so you can hang the picture frame on a tree branch comfortably
