DIY Halloween Costume Ideas for an Elementary School Girl
You can always go into the costume section of your local mass merchant and buy all sorts of Halloween costumes for your school aged daughter, but there are many costumes you can also make out of things you already have in the closet. Or if you need some extra additions to make the costume special, you can help your daughter put them together and make a family event out of it.
A Halloween costume common among school-aged girls is the princess costume. While there are many variations available for purchase, it can be cheaper just to wear an old Easter or Christmas dress that your daughter may never wear again. Dressy shoes can also be worn. To make the DIY princess costume something special, you can create a tiara with items purchased from a craft store such as small fake flowers, ribbons, and a circular ring about the size of the girl’s head. If a cape is desired, you can purchase inexpensive frilly fabric from the craft store as well and tie it around the girl’s neck as an extra accessory.
As long as your favorite food comes in a box, you can easily make a DIY Halloween costume out of it. If you have a large cardboard box lying around, you can make a family painting project out of it and your daughter can easily become her favorite food for Halloween. To make it into a costume after you paint it, you just have to cut head, arm, and leg holes into the box to custom fit it for your child.
Your child can easily become their favorite animal, whether it be pig, cow, or dog by simply wearing colors that suit that animal, creating ears out of a headband and other materials available at a craft store, creating a tail out of ribbon, and using face paint to finish the costume off. Coming up with creative additions to make the costume seem more realistic are a great imaginative project for any young child.
