So, you think you want to be the head man or woman in charge of a huge corporation? But do you really have what it takes to be the CEO? Do you have the top qualities of a CEO?
Here are some questions to ask yourself before you set your sights on that rung of the career ladder.
Am I Healthy – Good health is mandatory when you take on a position this high in a company. All of the big problems will fall squarely on your shoulders. If your health is bad before you take on the responsibilities of a corporation, it will be awful soon after.
Am I a Leader – You must be a leader and not a follower if you want to succeed as a CEO. You have to be able to take control of a situation and demonstrate a leadership role and give direction with confidence and authority.
Am I Confident – In order to be a successful CEO, you have to have the confidence that will help you do your job well. You have to believe in yourself enough to believe in your choices and decisions.
Am I Committed – If you are not committed, you are wasting your time. Commitment is essential if you want to succeed. The Chief Executive Offer position cannot be successfully filled with someone who come to work with a feeling of dread everyday. Your passion for the job and the company has to be strong before you can be a good CEO.
Am I Dedicated – Dedication along with commitment is essential to the characteristics of a successful CEO. Your dedication to the success of the company will keep you going at full speed for a much longer time.
Am I a Problem Solver – If you can’t solve problems in your own home or in your everyday life, you probably will not be able to solve the complicated problems associated with being in charge of a big business.
Do I Demonstrate Respect of Others – If you show blatant disrespect toward others, especially your subordinates, you most likely will be shown blatant disrespect, either in your face or behind your back, or both. If you don’t already know how, learn how to show respect to others.
Am I Flexible – Flexibility is good. Rigidity is not good. Being rigid is just another way of saying I know everything, I can’t possibly be wrong. Well, you are already wrong. Convince yourself – if you will allow yourself – that even if you do know a lot, you can learn that much more.
Now you know.
Being a successful CEO mean a lot more than looking forward to a big pay-check and bonuses. It is usually one of the most stressful, albeit rewarding positions a person can strive for, but the responsibilities are tremendous.
