If you do not mind huge crowds, fighting for parking spaces, and standing in long lines, then shopping on Black Friday is probably for you. If you do not like any of the above, then you probably avoid shopping on this day like I do.
Even if stores were to offer items for free during a certain time, you would still not see me out shopping on Black Friday. My sister asked me to go with her to Walmart at 5am. I said to her, “You have to be kidding because I am not going out in those crowds.” She thought it over and went a little later with her husband because the sales went from 5am to 11am. I do not like going out to any store on this day unless it is a grocery store.
When she returned from Walmart, she told me that she would never do it again and that it is not worth the discount that you get. There was a long line just to get in the store and there were about 300 people ahead of them. Then, it took them about 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot.
On normal days, I am an early bird and I like to hit the stores very early in the morning before the crowds. I am not one that likes to wait in long lines and drive for 20 minutes or more around a parking lot to find a space. That is why you would never see me out on a day like this.
This year many stores offered the same discounts online. The names of the stores were on the news. They also interviewed different people and some said that it is not worth it for them just to get a little discount. They would rather pay more and avoid crowds. Everyone likes a discount and to get something on sale. You do not have to wait until Black Friday for this to happen. Many stores offer discounts all throughout the year. That is when I take advantage of the sales and I walk out of the store feeling that I got a good bargain. The best thing about it is that I am not waiting in long lines, or fighting for a parking space. I am in and out pretty quickly.
I did a lot of my Christmas shopping a few weeks ago at Kohl’s. They have a nice selection in their toy department. The sales that day were just as good as the discounts on Black Friday. I bought a gift for my niece that was $50, but I got it for $30. I went again to Kohl’s the day after Christmas and they still had good discounts. I bought my niece a $30 outfit for only $12. I do not think that anyone can argue about those not being good deals. So, does it really pay to shop on Black Friday, when you can get just as good discounts other times during the year? The only time I would say that it is worthwhile, is if a certain item that you’ve been wanting a long time, only goes on sale that day.
