Dreaming is an important part of our sleep time. It provides a bridge between the unconscious and conscious minds, helping us to understand thought processes that aren’t always available to our waking awareness.
I counsel many people who are frustrated because they don’t remember their dreams. They’ve tried telling themselves they will. They place a notebook and pen on their bedside table. Nothing happens. Sometimes a crystal can make the difference.
In my experience, the most effective crystal for capturing dreams is the Herkimer diamond. Mined in Herkimer, New York, these quartz crystals have a diamond-like shape and are often clear to the point of brilliance. You don’t need a giant Herkimer to get results. I recommend placing one in a pouch either beneath your pillow or inside your pillowcase. This way the crystal won’t get lost or accidentally laundered.
Sleeping with this crystal can help you avoid the almost drugged feeling that can result from half-remembered dreams. This is especially useful if you’ve had a nightmare and wake up with a vague but disturbing feeling of fear.
The only problem with a Herkimer diamond is that it may work too well. Your dreams may become so vivid that you may feel as if you were awake all night. Fortunately, a solution exists. If you pair your Herkimer with an amethyst crystal (a tumbled stone is good), the amethyst’s calming effect will soften the energy of the Herkimer. With this combination you will have good dream recall and also feel well rested.
Amethyst is also very helpful for those who are afraid of their dreams because they’re often nightmares. This crystal is especially helpful in turning nightmares into helpful and educational dreams.
Another crystal that has helped my clients is moldavite. This stone is a meteorite found in the Moldau Valley of the Czech Republic. This crystal is believed to be a psychic cleanser. Since dreams can help to release negative emotions, the addition of moldavite to the crystal dreams ensemble can have very helpful effects.
Since dreams help to balance the conscious and unconscious minds, crystals that promote balance can be helpful at night. Some of these are moonstone, sodalite, and moss agate.
