It’s dangerous enough being a pedestrian in traffic in which snarling vehicles all battle for inches in the game called gridlock. Many people moved to the five boroughs to get away from driving and drivers entirely. So when someone is struck trying to cross the street, it’s a shocking reminder of just how careful drivers and walkers need to be. When it’s an old lady who gets hit by an SUV, there’s a problem.
According to Brooklyn Eagle (1) “authorities are re-examining the problematic intersection at Marine and Third Avenues…in the wake of (an) accident…” At around 1PM on Friday 10/1, “an SUV hit this elderly woman who was crossing Marine Avenue.” The woman was “put onto a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital.”
What needs be examined a lot closer though is the structure of this intersection as well as the temperaments of someone who would be in such a hurry that they would run into another human being, let alone granny!
According to the piece, one community observer noted “there have been accidents there for the last 50 years.” Fifty years of putting grandma and little Johnny at risk? That’s just too long!
