An increasing problem which is not going away anytime soon is the number of traffic related incidents. This is a problem further exacerbated by metropolitan areas like downtown Brooklyn where there are equal amounts of people who drive as walk/ride bicycles. If the rules of the road were followed exactly, there would be zero accidents. Wrap your head around that one.
We are all law breakers though, according to a recent post from Brooklyn Eagle (1). From seat belts, to speeding, to the new and always wonderful cell phones/text messaging while driving laws, anyone who drives a car with any regularity cannot deny their guilt in this in some regard.
According to Brooklyn Eagle “on October 21, the DOT released a press release entitled: “NYC DOT, NYPD announces New Initiatives to Improve Safety for Pedestrians, Motorists and Cyclists.” A large portion of this will be “increased enforcement against motorists speeding and failure to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, as well as against cyclists who violate traffic laws.”
We are all living in this world together and cars are a wonderful thing. They still cause incalculable amounts of sadness and pain when people disobey traffic laws, hurt others, and irreparably impact others lives.
