Finding the right window treatments can be very time consuming and challenging, at least for me. We have had very good luck finding window treatments and accessories at our local Lowe’s home improvement store. Several weeks ago we bought cellular shades, but they are plain and boring, so I wanted to hang curtains on my windows as well.
I purchased my curtains at JC Penney’s, but their hardware was just too expensive for my budget, so I checked out Lowe’s for curtain and drapery hardware, and found the perfect curtain rods at a decent savings. I purchased two rods that measured 48″ up to 84″, the brand was Style Selections Black Cage Drapery Hardware Set, which retailed for $24.97 each.
Style Selections Black Cage Drapery Hardware Set also come in a matching size measuring 28″ to 48″, but I needed the longer rods for even my smaller windows, because I hung my curtains six inches to the left of my window trim. This allowed me to have the decorative look of attractive curtains, without sacrificing any sunlight. I still had the cellular shaped shades for privacy and room darkening features.
The Style Selections Black Cage Drapery Hardware Set rods measure three quarters of an inch in diameter, and they have a black finish over the metal rod. Each of the finials screw securely onto the ends of the rods, and the finials are designed in the popular cage style. There are six very thick and swirly metal spokes that form a ball with an empty center, in other words, a “cage”.
What is nice about these rods is that they come with matching mounting hardware. The hardware is adjustable, so you can hang your curtains close to your wall, or you can pull the brackets out away from the wall, which is what we needed to do in order to allow the curtains to hang freely and not touch the cellular shades we also have installed on our windows.
Because we mounted our hardware six inches to the left and right of our windows, there were no studs in the wall, so we used screw style Molly bolts to secure the brackets. Since this curtain and drapery rod is so long, the set actually includes three brackets. At first I didn’t think we needed to install all three on our wall, but the third center bracket was indeed needed to provide the support needed for our heavier 84 inch length curtains.
Similar style curtain rods were retailing for $80.00 at my local JC Penney’s store, so Lowe’s had a great price on this Style Selections Black Cage Drapery Hardware Set. Paired with black colored clip rings, these add a beautiful elegant touch to my other bedroom accessories that also have a black finish.
