The DUMBO Arts Festival takes place this weekend, and it promises to be the largest and most spectacular to date. Now in its 14th year, the DUMBO Arts Festival turns the area between the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge into one giant art gallery and performance space. The festival has expanded beyond the visual arts to include live music and performance art. The area’s art galleries, public spaces, studios, performance venues, and bookshops all take part in the event festivities.
This year’s three day festival DUMBO Arts Festival will include marionette theater, a cardboard box maze, animated three-dimensional portraits, drum making, paper airplane war commentary, take-out container sculptures, giant transparent spheres that react to the ebb and flow of the East River, a colossal sushi sculpture, street artist boxing, a restored 1922 carousel, and the Manhattan Bridge Archway slowly transforming into ice.
