The NY Post pointed out that DUMBO landmark, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, is suing its DUMBO landlord for allegedly attempting to evict them from their famous Old Fulton Street location.
The Post discovered papers filed in the Brooklyn Supreme Court against the landlord Dorothy Waxman, her son Mark Waxman, and several unnamed companies for refusing to accept rent payments from owner Frank Ciolli.
Frank Ciolli purchased the iconic pizza joint in 1998 from its founder Patsy Grimaldi. Over this past summer, the Waxmans attempted to evict Ciolli for $60,000 in back rent. But Ciolli is claiming he tried to pay.
According to the Post, Mark Waxman called the allegations “ludicrous.” Regardless, Ciolli’s lease is up in November of 2011. With this type of animosity between landlord and tenant, Grimaldi’s may be dunzos in DUMBO. We hope not. But we better grab a pie before Beyonce and Jay-Z take it all.
