Are E-Books cost effective? Are they really the wave of the future or simply another fad? Could they be used as a tool for controlling what we read?
Here are some pros and cons about E-Books and if they are right for you:
Pro: E-Books will allow you to receive a book faster than if it was ordered and shipped. This is a good thing for people who love to read but do not like to wait.
Con: The book may cost more than if it was ordered off line and shipped. The E-Book may cost more in the long run for the ability to read the book immediately. This is a major draw back for someone on a tight budget.
Pro: Convenience is another way these electronic books can pay off. They are easy to carry and can go anywhere. One can pull them out anytime one has a few moments to read much like a traditional book.
Con: They do work on a battery and this will limit the amount of time one may view a book. This may make the viewer read faster and not take as much time reading in a more relaxed mode.
Note: This item would not be recommended for someone that might be shipwrecked for any length of time. Having a traditional book would not have this draw back.
Pro: Books of this nature can be monitored easier to see what ones children may be reading. This type book if it ever takes off might eventually replace the traditional book.
Con: This could be bad in two different areas: If traditional books are ever replaced what would happen to used book stores, this would make it hard to find out of print books.
The other way of course would be book bans like they have had in other countries. This would make it easy for the government to see what a person is reading. They could simply delete any books that they might ban from a central location. There would be no need for book burnings at least not in this country.
E-Books can be a great asset to us in the future or they can be used to make our worst fears come true. I prefer both methods at this time traditional and electronic. The electronic way just seems to make my eyes tire more easily. Every one though will have pros and cons about anything on the market and as always they must be weighed out by the consumer.
