In celebration of the release of the 7thHarry Potter Film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, why not whip up a Hogwarts themed meal for your little witches and wizards tonight? You don’t need a house elf’s help to prepare any of these delicious magical menu items.
Steak and Kidney Pie
For the main course serve a traditional steak and kidney pie:
Packaged puff pastry, thawed
1 Beef Kidney
2 pounds of steak, cubed
2 cups of onions, chopped
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp pepper
½ tsp of thyme
12 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 cups water
6 Tbs flour
Soak kidney overnight in salted water (in fridge). Drain, trim white membrane and dice.
Brown kidney and steak in a saucepan. Add the onions, the seasoning and 1 and ½ cups of water. Simmer until meat is tender (1 hour)
Blend together flour and remaining water, then stir it into the meat mixture. Cook and stir until mixture thickens.
Pour out mixture into a casserole dish
Cover dish with puff pastry
Bake at 425 until browned. Serve piping hot with peas, carrots or Brussels sprouts
Whip up a batch of Butter Beer to serve you’re little witches and wizards for dinner.
Put ¼ cup of butterscotch syrup and ¼ tablespoon of butter in each glass or mug.
Microwave on high until syrup is bubbly and butter is melted.
Stir, and then slowly mix in one cup of cream soda.
Cockroach Clusters, Licorice Wands, Cauldron Cakes and treacle tarts are among some of Harry’s favorite sugary treats. Whip up a few of these treats for desert:
Mix pretzels and dried cranberries into melted chocolate. Spoon onto a baking sheet (cover it with parchment paper first) and refrigerate
Dip the ends of Licorice into melted white chocolate (the melted chocolate forms the end of the wand). Refrigerate.
Bake chocolate cupcakes, then the tops of the cupcakes to make them more cauldron shaped. Add a licorice handle.
If you’re feeling more ambitious, Whip up this traditional British desert. It’s actually quite easy to make! It consists of golden syrup (or molasses), lemon juice and breadcrumbs. You can find a great and easy recipe for Treacle tart here.
