Make your own Cantaloupe Freezer Packs. This is so easy. I have never seen in the store. A little prep will afford you enough packs for a week’s worth of healthy smoothies just from one cantaloupe! You will be able to put together a Cantaloupe Smoothie to Go in no time flat! Cut a cantaloupe in half. I like to cut my cantaloupes when they are SLIGHTLY dimpled on the outside skin.
Then scoop out the seeds in the center and discard. Cut into wedges and then peel. Discard the peel.
Cut into bite-sized chunks and then place around ten or so chunks into snack-sized ziploc bags. Place all the bags into one gallon sized freezer bag.
Presto! Instant cantaloupe chunks for smoothies. Drop them into fresh squeezed juice or vanilla soy milk (4 – 8 ounces) in a blender or smoothie maker. Voila! Instant Smoothies. This is so very easy and it is one of the most nutritious breakfasts around. An average cantaloupe will make 8 – 10 bags: that’s 8 – 10 smoothies prepped!
This is so much more low-cal and low-carb than using yogurt and canned fruit. In fact, the cantaloupe is one of the lowest calorie fruits you can consume. It is full of potassium. Bananas get all the hype on potassium, but cantaloupe is a potassium superstar.
There is nothing better than an Orange-Pineapple Smoothie Slush. In fact you can freeze a cantaloupe smoothie slightly until it is more solid and then eat it like ice cream!
Other fruits that you can prepare in your own freezer packs are pineapple chunks, strawberries (hull them first), honeydew melon chunks, blackberries, and raspberries. In my experience, blueberries do not always do so well in smoothies-the texture is odd.
