Cleaning the oven is never a fun or easy task. Usually, your initial instinct may be to buy a powerful cleaner to attack the built up stains. Unfortunately, most oven cleaners are made up of chemicals that are not safe for you or the environment. The good news is there are more eco-friendly ways to effectively clean your oven.
2 Spray Bottles
Natural Cleaner (1 part vinegar/3 parts water)
Old Rag (you may need more than one)
Step One – Fill one spray bottle with water. The second spray bottle should contain a natural mix of 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water.
Step Two – Place on the cleaning gloves and remove the racks from the oven. If they need to be cleaned, place them in the sink and spray them down with the vinegar/water mixture. Let that natural mix sit while you clean the oven.
Step Three – With your old rag, wipe out any food droppings that are on the bottom of the oven. Take the spray bottle with the vinegar/water mixture and spray down the inside of the oven. Scrub with the old rag and then sprinkle baking soda onto any stubborn or heavily soiled areas. Let the baking soda sit for a minute* then wet the toothbrush and scrub the area. Finally, wipe the inside of the oven with the old rag and repeat the baking soda/toothbrush scrub as necessary.
Step Four – Using the bottle of water, spray the inside of the oven and wipe down with a clean rag.
Bonus – Not only is vinegar an eco-friendly alternative to harsh chemical cleaners, but it also absorbs odors!
* You can start cleaning the oven racks while you are waiting on the baking soda to set in.
