Keeping your yoga mat clean is essential. Between sweating, being on the floor and at times, outdoors with your yoga mat, it is easy for fungus and bacteria to accumulate onto the mat. Below are tips on how to clean your yoga mat in an eco-friendly way without using any harsh chemicals.
Natural Cleaner – Mix of 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water

Step One – Prepare the natural mixture of vinegar and water in the spray bottle.
Step Two – Unroll your yoga mat in the bath tub and spray down the mat with the vinegar/water mixture.
Step Three – Fill the bath tub with a few inches of cool water and begin to scrub the mat with your wash cloth. You may need to spray more of the vinegar/water mixture onto the mat and scrub a second time.
Step Four – When you are satisfied that your yoga mat is cleaned thoroughly, drain the dirty tub water. Rinse the mat with clean water and then gently twist the mat to drain excess water.
Step Five – It is recommended to hang your yoga mat over a clothing rack to dry but if one isn’t available, you can hang your yoga mat over a chair. Place a towel underneath the chair to absorb any water drippings from the drying yoga mat.
If you don’t have time to do a deep clean by hand, you can do a quick clean by using a spray bottle full of the cleaner (1 part vinegar/3 parts water) and a wash cloth. Unroll your yoga mat on the floor or in your bath tub. Spot clean by spraying the dirtiest area on your mat and carefully scrubbing the yoga mat with the wash cloth. Since you are not fully submerging your yoga mat into water like the tutorial above, your yoga mat will dry a lot faster with this quick clean. Hang to dry completely.
