The egg recall brands list continues to scare the FDA. Since the egg recall brands encompass millions of eggs already, the FDA egg recall brands list could get even larger in weeks ahead. However, the organization needs a lot of tools to protect consumers, find whatever tainted products are left, and figure out how to combat them. Yet such a task is daunting for any government entity, especially these days. As such, thanks to the egg recall brands list, the FDA is being more direct in asking for new powers, and new legislation.
The debate over FDA safety rules and regulations is hardly new. In fact, new monitoring requirements for salmonella were put in place just a month before this crisis started. However, it came weeks too late to prevent what happened at Wright County Eggs and Hillandale Farms, which may be the whole problem.
Nothing can be done to decrease the egg recall brand list, as 550 million eggs and counting have been tainted. Yet as the FDA looks for more contaminated products, they also have to assure the public that this won’t happen again. To that end, the Senate may need to get involved, in order to help the FDA out.
For some time, advocates have argued that the FDA needs more power, in order to trace food from the source and detect contamination early. They also want the ability to order mandatory recalls by themselves. As the egg recall brand list gets more troublesome, the Senate may soon debate whether to give them those powers.
Of course, the Senate doesn’t have a track record of acting quickly on these matters. The health care, banking and housing troubles have yielded slow action, and questionable solutions. And as long as the egg recall brand list has gotten, it may not propel the Senate any faster.
Over a thousand people have been exposed to salmonella, at the least. However, as unpleasant as the illness is, it has worked its way through the victims within days, as no deaths have been reported. Things could have been much worse – but the FDA can argue that they will get worse, unless something is done.
The egg recall brands list is just the biggest example of unsafe products in recent years. Recalls have been made for countless items lately, while tainted food, toys, toothpaste and more have gotten through. There are many things outside our home that can hurt or kill us, but more and more, the things that get inside our home are just as risky.
The FDA has done all that they can to fight this, but making an egg recall brands list is all they can do in the short term. It will take longer to trace what exactly happened, and how best to prevent it sooner. Yet they may not be able to do it all with the tools they have – which Congress might need to take into account soon.
