There is a new drinking establishment in Clinton Hill at 561 Myrtle Avenue near Emerson Place. While it has a long vintage dark wood bar and looks somewhat like a throwback 1950s social club; owner Sam Barron described it to Grub Street as a “real community center, with alcohol.”
Which fits the space well. It sort of looks like a scaled down cross of Union Hall in Park Slope and Brooklyn Social in Carroll Gardens.
The new space is the brainchild of Tom Wentworth, a writer and TV producer; Gina Jankowski, an artist and Pratt alum; and Sam Barron, who also owns the Fort Greene cafe Maggie Brown.
The space serves beer, wine, and cocktails, four types of grilled cheese sandwiches, Niman Ranch Hot Dogs, McClure’s pickles, and condiments by Schoolhouse Kitchen.
Besides a happy hour and good music, the group is planning to host movie screenings, pool leagues, game nights, and art exhibitions.
They don’t have a calendar of events up yet, but hopefully it comes soon.
