Melisa Jackson, a FDNY paramedic, was charged with criminal misconduct after letting pregnant woman Eutisha Rennix die unattended last December. Jackson called for an ambulance while getting coffee at Au Bob Pain in the MetroTech office complex that houses both the FDNY and EMT headquarters. But she fled the scene with her fellow EMT co-worker and boyfriend Jason Green without providing medical assistance to Rennix, who died of an asthma attack.
“The reason she couldn’t stay is Ms. Jackson sneaked out of work where she was supposed to be manning a dispatch terminal,” stated Assistant DA Kevin Richardson according to the NY Post.
After learning of the couple’s inaction, the FDNY suspended both Jackson and Green for 30 days. A few months after the incident, Green was shot dead in an unrelated SoHo brawl.
Jackson faces up to one year in jail for the misdemeanor offense.
