As I have been making lighted table runners for Christmas presents this year, I have had the opportunity to experiment with different sizes and types of Christmas light sets. Some have proven to work very well. A few have worked okay but aren’t anything to write home about. Others, unfortunately, have been a major disappointment.
In an attempt to save you some heartache as well as some valuable dollars, I will be sharing the information with you as I compile it. The first set on my list came from Christmas House. Their Battery Pack Mini Light Set provided to be a huge bomb.
This time around I am tackling Energy Star LED Dome Lights. These come in various sizes and styles. I chose the 35 count, multi-colored set for my purposes.
These lights are AC driven. However, Energy Star has manufactured them to save up to 70% of normal power. They are also billed as “long life”, promising a whopping 25,000 hours of brightness. Finally, the break resistant bulbs should prevent the need for constant replacement.
Energy Star says these LED Dome Lights can be used indoor or out. While I haven’t tried them outside, I have no reason to doubt the claim.
Using advanced LED technology, these tiny lights promise as much brightness as other lights three times their size. I agree. These lights are both beautiful and bright. I also appreciate their ultra-compact size.
The 35 pack comes on a 10.7-foot cord. It provides a wattage rating of 2.4.
Energy Star’s LED Dome Lights are cool to the touch, helping to negate the possibility of fire relating to the bulbs touching flammable objects. Nonetheless, it is important not to leave the light set unattended whenever it is plugged in.
The bulbs must be pushed tightly into the sockets in order to achieve proper brightness. LED light sets like this one must also be replaced only with like LED bulbs. Traditional mini light bulbs should not be used in this set.
Energy Star’s LED Dome Lights can be found in various locations. I found mine at Big Lots where they retailed for $4. The price is excellent considering the versatility of these lights and the amount of burning time they achieve.
Here is my summary rating:
Versatility: 5 stars. I really like these lights. First of all, they are bright and colorful, despite their reduced size. Secondly, the shorter length, which is about half of traditional mini lights, works well for my lighted runners. These lights would work equally well in small Christmas trees, wreaths, on stockings, in garlands or any myriad of options. They are small enough to use almost anywhere but provide enough brightness to suit any need.
Size: 5 stars. Energy Star LED Dome Lights come in 20, 35, 50, 100 and 300 light sizes in most locations. Larger sizes may also be available in select locations. Those sizes ensure that there is a light set that will suit almost any Christmas decorative need.
Brightness: 5 stars. Energy Star LED Dome Lights shine with as much, if not more, brightness than any other mini light set.
Cost: 4 stars. Granted, the cost is slightly more than some other traditional small light sets. However, when you take into consideration that bulbs are guaranteed for 25,000 light hours, that makes this light set a super bargain.
Overall Rating: 4.9 stars. Energy Star LED Dome Lights are a good option, no matter your Christmas decoration needs.
