The English Language is under assault in the State of Arizona and not by whom you might think. Non – English Speakers are not the culprits in these crimes of the tongue. The perpetrator leading the assault on the English Language is Jan Brewer, Governor of Arizona Jan Brewer.
Governor Brewer is a career politician championing herself as a leading advocate of education in Arizona. Arizona ranked 49th out of 50 states in education funding when Governor Brewer inherited the Office of Governor to succeed Janet Napolitano. Napolitano vacated the Office of Governor in Arizona to join the Obama Administration as the Director of the Department of Homeland Security.
The English Language is under assault in the State of Arizona and not by whom you might think. Opponents of Governor Brewer find her an assault on human and civil rights. Since taking office, Governor Brewer has signed into law the Wild West law, SB 1108 on April16, 2010. SB 1108 provides for Citizens of Arizona age 21 and older to own and carry a gun without a permit. Arizona became only the 3rd state in the country to sign such provision into law behind the states of Vermont and Alaska.
Second, she signed into law SB 1070 reporting it was necessary for Arizona to act since the federal government has failed to secure the border. The undisputed intent of SB 1070 is to identify the many undocumented persons living, working, paying taxes, and committing crimes in the State of Arizona. SB 1070 is before the courts. SB 1108 is before the court of public opinion in the Wild West. Governor Brewer’s most malicious acts of assault are not on Non – English Speakers. Her most malicious and insensitive acts of assault are on the English language.

Governor Brewer and Republican Party Primary Candidates for Governor met for debate sponsored by the Clean Elections Commission on June 15, 2010. In her opening remarks, she indicates her administration in office just over 500 days has managed to cut 2.2 billion dollars in spending to balance Arizona’s budget.
At 4minutes and 13 seconds, she says, “That is something no other governor has ever did.” At 4 minutes and 51 seconds, she says again praising the accomplishments of her administration, “We have did.” The English Language is under assault in the State of Arizona.

This is the evening of her extended pensive pause during her opening remarks. The English Language is under assault in the State of Arizona.
One of her most recent assaults on the English Language followed her emergence from the extended pause. The pause lasted for ten seconds with a nervous laugh in the interim. When she begins to speak again she says, “We have did what was right for Arizona.”
Governor Brewer is quick to point out what she perceives to be the ineffectiveness and inability of President Obama. If President Obama spoke like Governor Brewer, the nation would never hear the end of it.
It is interesting that it is not the many undocumented persons in Arizona that are publicly assaulting the English language. The champion of Education in the state 49th out of 50 states is the guilty party. It is the Governor of the State of Arizona that is assaulting the English Language for the world to observe. Is it any surprise Arizona is 49th out of 50?
The English Language is under assault in the State of Arizona and now you know by whom. The people of Arizona deserve better. Come on, Governor. You can do better.
