The “Longhorn Cavern State Park” in Burnet, Texas has been investigated several times for paranormal activity by such renowned groups as the “Austin Paranormal Group.” As such the park management offers a monthly paranormal tour.
Brief History of Longhorn Caverns
“Longhorn Caverns” is a river created, limestone cavern that was once used by the Comanche Indians, Confederate soldiers and notorious outlaws like Sam Bass.
Reputedly haunted by assorted Indians, soldiers and outlaws the cave is an excellent spot to engage in paranormal photography.
It is not uncommon for photographers to capture orbs of light and other unknown phenomena traveling through the cavern’s darkened grottoes.
Paranormal Tour Information
The once a month, guided paranormal tour usually begins at 10:00 pm and runs past midnight. There is a minimum of 6 people required for the tour to proceed, with a maximum of 10 participants allowed per tour.
Advance reservations are strongly recommended. Due to the nature of the paranormal tour dates, times and prices are subject to change. Therefore it is best to call in advance of one’s trip to confirm such matters.
Tour participants are allowed to use electronic devices of choice during the paranormal tour.
Other Tours and Special Events
The “Longhorn Cavern and State Park” offers a variety of other unique tours and special events. Each tour and special event varies in price, availability, and components.
In addition to the paranormal and day tours, there are; wild caving tours, geology tours, photography tours, biology tours, hiking tours and musical events.

Hours of Operation and General Admission Information
As of 2010 “Longhorn Cavern State Park” is open daily year round with hours of operation varying by season. It is imperative to note that the park is closed on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
During the months of September until Memorial Day Weekend, “Longhorn Cavern State Park” offers basic tours Monday through Friday at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays during the same period the park offers tours every hour from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.
Currently posted summer hours are from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.
At this time admission per each adult is $12.99. The price of admission per child between the ages of 13 to 19 is $11.99 and the per person price for children between the ages of 2 to 12 is $7.99. Children under the age of 2 are admitted on the tour for free and there are discounts for senior citizens as well.

The “Longhorn Cavern” itself maintains a year round temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit so visitors are encouraged to dress accordingly.
It should also be noted that the cavern does host a group of Pipistrelle bats and as a commercial cavern has not yet been affected by White Nose Syndrome outbreaks at this time.
