The Green Market in Prospect Park is Brooklyn’s answer to Union Square. A year round green market, it features cheese, vegetables, fruit, flowers, meat and artisanal goods. It also has plenty of free food samples available for browsers. The Green Market runs two days a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, though the Wednesday market is seasonal and not open in winter.
Brooklyners tired of schlepping all the way to Manhattan when they want local produce and the incomparable atmosphere of a farmer’s market should definitely give Prospect Park a try. Not only does it have all the range and variety of the Union Square Market, it is less crowded and attached to a beautiful, lush park. Residents can spend a lazy Saturday afternoon buying the ingredients for a lazy Sunday morning, thereby improving their entire weekend while supporting the local economy.
