Haunted Houses Take Center Stage in October
October in Michigan is all about horror. And we are not talking about the economy. Michigan is acknowledged as a leader in Halloween haunted houses. Many of these haunted houses are sure to send a chill crawling up your back, but none are scarier or more fun than Erebus in downtown Pontiac. Erebus is the scariest haunted house in Michgan and perhaps the scariest in the country.
Originality Makes Erebus the Scariest Haunted House
Erebus has always prided itself in being a different sort of haunted house. Even the name is unusual. The word Erebus is derived from ancient Greek mythology. Erebus was thought to be the darkest region of the underworld, a place where the dead passed through on their way to Hades.
In conventional haunted houses, you are likely to encounter standard issue vampires, mummies, zombies and other movie/pop culture related frights. The scariest haunted houses veer from the conventional into the truly frightful. Erebus lands squarely in scariest haunted house land.
Most haunted houses obtain props through prop vendors and trade shows, but not Erebus. No, you are not going to encounter any Hollywood horrors within the shadowy confines of Erebus. Everything in Erebus 100% original; designed and built from scratch. The effect is stunning and chilling. There is nothing in This haunted house that you will see duplicated anywhere else.
Large Scale Animatronics and Professional Actors Add to the Erebus Experience
The scariest haunted houses fuse a number of elements together in order to make the haunted house experience as frightening as possible. Among these elements are animatronics, which Erebus employs to amplify the visitors unease. These are large scale animatronics such as floors that appear to be uneven and moving beneath your feet, to hallways with walls that feel as if they are closing in. The effect makes the visitor feel disoriented and unbalanced.
Erebus employs a large cast of evil actors in gruesome professional make-up. These “scary as hell” Lords of the Underworld characters assault visitors constantly, leaving nerves on razor’s edge. Seriously, Hollywood horror could take a few lessons at from the folks behind this haunted house. It is that good.
I am not going to give away all the frights and surprises, you will just have to see for yourself, if you dare.
An Abandoned Garage Turns Into a Little Corner of Hell
Erebus opened in an abandoned parking garage in 2000 and at the time was the largest walk-through haunted house in the world. A walk through this scariest of haunted houses will take about thirty minutes if you make it all the way through. There are many “chicken exits” located through out Erebus for those with faint hearts and bladders.
If you are a lover of horror and truly scary haunted houses, Erebus is the place for you. Erebus is located at 18 S. Perry Street in downtown Pontiac. Admission is $22 and worth every penny. Check it out.
