Creative people have the need to make something beautiful out of what is ugly. While the initial creative persons objection to something as technological as the Internet was apparent, a few really smart people turned the game on its head by taking the black-and-white (or green-and-yellow) of the Internet and creating a personal place, social outlet, and personal expression. A website like Etsy.com (1) is a marketplace of the creative and for those who appreciate it.
Like all successful companies though, Etsy.com had to grow. Still remaining true to their ethos, NYConvergence.com (2) reports that, etsy.com gives “each staffer…$100 to decorate and personalize their workspace.” Unsurprisingly, “they do (so), creatively.”
“Most of the office decor comes from the company’s website and there is a handmade felt deer’s head on one wall, a space station conference room designed by Zooguu, and artist-designed telephone booths. The staff even prepares “home-made” food for lunch a couple of times a week.”
Many creative types wish we could all work somewhere so keen on fostering the creative spirit.
