When asked to try Pantene Pro-V Color Hair Solutions (Color Preserve Shine Shampoo, Conditioner and Deep Conditioner), then give my opinion on the product, I jumped at the chance. Because I’m the queen of frugality and somewhat of a critic, I knew that any product I tried better give me every cent’s worth, and it better do exactly what it says it’s going to do. I’m not one to fall for fancy packaging or trust that a product works just because the company says it does.
This is especially true with hair products. My hair and I are often enemies, seeing that’s it’s oily close to the scalp and dry and frizzy toward the ends. Couple that with the fact that I live in a rural home with well water, and I’ve got a challenge on my hands. On top of that, I color my hair, and well water can do horrible things to colored hair.
Bring it on, PantenePro-V!
Okay, I’ll admit, the packaging is nice. Nice, big bottles with beautiful fall-like colors, and clearly labeled with what the product is. However, I’m more interested in what’s inside.
The first thing I noticed was the scent: light, clean and nice. The second thing I noticed was that it sure doesn’t take a lot of this product to get the results I want. That’s a nice perk, because this product will last a while. Nothing’s worse than finding out your shampoo and conditioner is so watered down, you’re having to replenish your supply about once every week. Just a small amount of this shampoo gave me lots of results. It was easy to rinse out, too, saving me time and water. I noticed a difference in my hair before even opening the conditioner. It felt smoother and, for lack of a better word, lighter, meaning it didn’t feel heavy, weighed down with product or greasy.
The first day I tried this product, I opted to use the weekly deep conditioner. Again, a great light and fresh scent that was the same as the shampoo. No clashing of scents here. Also, just a “smidge,” as my 9-year-old daughter likes to say, goes a very long way. I worked the product through my hair, where it worked it’s best for the next 2 to 3 minutes trying to repair my hopelessly frizzy ends. This was the one product out of the trio of products that I was most skeptical about. I’ve tried many deep conditioners, and none of them really tamed the frizz that had invaded my hair since my early 20s.
After a few minutes, I began rinsing the deep conditioner out of my hair. I was surprised that it rinsed out so easily. Usually, deep conditioners are much heavier than regular conditioners, but it rinsed out easily. Again, no greasy residue and no feeling of heaviness. I was pleased with the product and vowed to use it once per week.
The second day I used this product, I followed shampooing with the daily conditioner. Again, I am very happy with the initial impression of this product. Great, light scent, not heavy or greasy, no need to use a lot and easy to rinse out. The daily conditioner was as easy to rinse out as the shampoo was, my hair felt great. But I knew the true test for all three Pantene products would be what it would feel and look like after I dried it.
I’m mindful of not having the heat on my blow dryer set to high, less my hair turn out even more frizzy! So on medium heat and medium speed, I set about drying my once parched and faded hair. I noticed right away the ends had been helped – much less frizz! Was it completely frizzless (if that’s even a word)? No, as the only cure for that would be to cut my hair, and that’s something I’m trying to avoid. My hair was certainly in much better condition than it was pre-Pantene. I found my hair to be much smoother, easier to control and less frizzy. The color in my hair was more vibrant, and the highlights seemed to come out more.
Having tried hundreds of hair care products in the past 20-plus years, I can honestly say that Pantene Pro-V Color Preserve Shine did what it said it would do, and more.
