Facebook announced an invite-only event at the Facebook Headquarters Wednesday, October 6th.
The tech resources around the web and those that attended the event have given a summary of those upcoming changes users will soon begin to notice.
Download Your Information
Facebook has integrated photo, video, and mobile uploading but this is a feature that will allow users to create media packages at the tip of their hands. Your media and messages can be compiled in a .Zip file which will allow you to email that package to your email so that is available in one place. It will have privacy protection by using passwords and security questions. This could be helpful if you are looking to save all your Facebook information and back it up, or maybe if you want to quit Facebook in general it would be an easy way to get all your pictures, videos, messages, and other media before your shut it down.
The Dashboard or User Interface will allow users to see the permissions of content and see what information is being used. An example of this is a photo. Instead of having to go through the privacy options and dig through all of the choices, it would have the options right under your content. This is a great way to maximize your privacy settings as some users are not aware how public or private you can make your profile.
Think of Groups as essentially that, groups. Facebook will allow you to Group people within your social circle. Maybe you want to send a picture to your Friends but not your Co-workers, this is where grouping can come in handy. You will be able to create a Group and only allow those people to share your social content and there are even talks about collaboration features which could allow a person to upload a document for example and the other members of the group can edit that document. The groups should have some sort of paper trail such as documenting the activities of the people in your groups.
