I love Fall. The leaves change color, Starbucks brings back Pumpkin Spice Lattes and the hot San Diego weather turns to a cool 70 degrees. But what I love most of all about this season is TV! All my favorite shows come back (hopefully) and I get to watch new shows in hopes of replacing the inevitably canceled shows.
Let me begin by saying I don’t watch reality TV, with a few exceptions. I like comedy/sitcoms and drama mostly. I won’t be reviewing Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Big Brother, Jersey Shore, America’s Got Talent or anything along those lines! I like to watch TV to escape reality, not get in the middle of it. So here is my review of the best shows, the worst shows and the surprisingly good shows.
I was so excited for DH to come back! Last season’s ending was crazy good! They are really good at leaving you with a cliffhanger so you bite off all your fingernails over the next three, agonizing months. So far I am really enjoying this season of Desperate Housewives. I have to say I love that they have Susan and Mike going through financial difficulties. It is a little more realistic than some of their other story lines. I was so bummed that Bree got divorced, but seeing Brian Austin Green in DH is a step in the right direction. Vanessa Williams is playing Renee, a friend of Lynette’s from college and I can’t figure out if I am suppose to love her or hate her!
The only downside to season 7 of Desperate Housewives so far is that they are leaving story lines from last season incomplete. Whatever happened to the Bolen’s? I know they went to Atlanta, but they just stopped showing them or talking about them. Are they ever coming back? I am enjoying Paul’s mysterious return though!
Modern Family and Parenthood
I really have nothing to say against these two shows which is why I bunched them together. The premieres were pretty typical as they are both in their second season. I was entertained but there were no surprises either. I do expect a little more of season premieres, but they’re still two of my favorite shows right now!
I have so much to say about The Office right now. I was really disappointed in it last season and have been afraid of their return. I have to say as much as I have wanted Jim and Pam to get together, the show got boring once it happened! Plus I noticed they are picking a few people to be main characters, and the rest are pretty much ignored. More so than the first couple seasons. It’s all about Jim, Pam, Michael, Andy and Dwight. You sometimes see Angela but you rarely see Oscar or the rest anymore. It’s an ensemble cast and I am hoping they do some of the other characters stories soon! However I will give them credit, so far this season is much funnier than the last!
Yeah, I don’t like it! Honestly it has lost me as a fan. It has gotten too weird and out there for me. I can’t keep track of which Olivia I am supposed to like and what the heck is going on! The first season was amazing and so much happened but I’m not too sure I can keep watching it. We’ll see where they go with it!
Cougar Town and 30 Rock
I almost forgot about these two shows. It goes to show you how interesting the premieres were! Honestly as much as I love 30 rock, this season isn’t as good. Not bad enough to cancel, and still has me laughing but it has lost something. Kenneth remains to be my favorite character, so as long as he is there I’m happy! As far as Cougar Town goes I don’t think it has much time left. It’s getting boring and I haven’t even watched the last two episodes due to lack of interest. I hope it can pick up some of it’s appeal!
Better With You
This is a brand new show that I decided to give a try. I really like it! It has Joanna Garcia (from Reba) who I love and she is the main reason I wanted to see it. It’s about 3 couples, Mia and Casey together 7 weeks, Maddie and Ben together 9 years and Vicky and Joel together 35 years. It covers the differences between each relationship with comedy and I am really enjoying it so far! If you want my husbands opinion, it’s a “chick show”. Straight from the horses mouth!
Another new show! I absolutely 100% love it! I’m not sure where they will go with it, but I hope it sticks around. Raising Hope is about a 23-year old guy who has to raise his 6-month old daughter after the one-night stand mother gets the death penalty for killing her past boyfriends. It’s kind of like a dark comedy, but mostly funny! You follow all the trials and tribulations of this family (Jimmy, his parents, maw maw, hope and some other side characters) as they try to figure out how to raise Hope. It’s hilarious and edgy and after 4 episodes I’m hooked!
Melissa & Joey
Big disappointment! When I heard Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence were doing a new show called Melissa and Joey I was excited, but it is such a let down! I haven’t read any reviews about it yet so I don’t know how it is being received, but I was really bored with it! It took me 3 tries to get through one episode. It just didn’t keep my interest long enough, and the acting is mediocre. Sorry but this one is not a winner in my book!
I saved the best for last. I absolutely love Glee. It is my second all-time favorite show (Friends will always be #1). I love the music, the actors, the characters and how it’s just a little edgy. I can’t believe this is only season 2! It seemed like so much happened in the first season. Season 1 was split up into 2 parts with a long 4-month break in between. From the very first episode I was hooked and calling it my favorite show, which continued until their break halfway through the season. When they came back I didn’t like it as much. It lost it’s edge and they kept repeating the same story lines over and over again. By the end of season 1 I was losing my affection a little bit, but still loved to see what would happen next.
I was so excited for season 2! So far it has been really good. There are a few things bothering me (like how it seems to be all about Kurt and Rachel/Finn now) but for the most part I still love it. The musical numbers are awesome and even though a lot of fans are complaining that there is too much music in it now, I love that part. I will continue watching it as a devoted fan.
