When picking a date for our wedding we knew that we both loved fall and we were confident that the weather would still be beautiful enough for an outdoor ceremony. As we started planning, the ideas for a fall wedding were near endless.
The colors typically associated with fall, are vivid reds, oranges, burgundies and gold tones. We used these colors throughout our fall wedding.
The first clue that we were doing a fall wedding theme were the invitations. We were on a budget and I made all of our stationary for the wedding. I chose a heavy wine cardstock to make pocket fold style invitations. The inner part was printed on a lighter weight cream cardstock and it had scroll work and fall leaves printed on the top. The pocket fold was then sealed with a ribbon and two skeleton leaves.
To really get the feel of a fall wedding I took special care when picking the flowers. My favorite rose is the Leonidas. It is perfect for fall because the outer petals are cream to pale orange and the inner petals are a rich terra cotta color. Sparse burgundy and cream color roses, dark red calla lilies, seeded eucalyptus, curly willow and hypericum berries beautifully accented the Leonidas. My bridesmaids, mom, mother in law and myself arranged all of the flowers. To give my fall wedding bouquet a final touch, I wrapped the stems in wine colored ribbon, to which I pinned a jeweled leaf broach.
For our fall wedding the bridesmaids wore wine colored dresses and the groomsmen wore gold satin vests with black tuxes. The ceremony was in a grassy area and to give it more of a fall feel I found a beautiful garland of fall leaves at Crate and Barrel. We draped it over the archway and on either side we placed two large floral arrangements. The images of us in front of the arch and flanked by the wedding party, in their rich fall colors, were gorgeous.
At the reception we used white tablecloths topped with wine colored table runners and chairs with white covers and gold sashes. We took several faux fall leaves and votive candles and placed them around the beautiful floral centerpieces that were low to the table. Our favors were chocolate’s shaped like leaves that were wrapped in fall colored foil and kept in gold sachet bags. We placed one at each place setting. The overall effect was a simple but elegant, fall wedding reception.
