Fall is a wonderful time to get married. I just finished two weddings (one for myself and one for my sister) and I learned a two or thing about how to have a great wedding.
Not all wedding DJs are created equal. Good DJs will act as wedding coordinators. They make sure all of the activities in the wedding go smoothly. They attend to the bride, bring her soda if she needs it, and worry about every detail of the wedding so you don’t have to. Bad DJs don’t care how well the wedding flows, or how happy the bride is.
How do you tell the difference? Just call a wedding venue and ask for a recommendation. They know all the good DJs, and would never put their reputation on the line by recommending a bad DJ. A standard price for a DJ is around $800.
I went to many bridal shows, and tasted some of the world’s worst cake. I was dieting for the upcoming wedding, and I was not used to so much refined white sugar (it made me sick).
I was determined to have a good wedding cake. I love Whole Foods cake (in Denver, CO) and my plan was to stack 3 regular Whole Foods cakes to make one wedding cake. Luckily, right before my wedding they started making wedding cakes. It was a 3 tiered cake (with an extra sheet cake) and cost around $100! It was the most delicious cake I’ve ever had in my life, and it looked wonderful.
I wanted a simple wedding were the emphasis was on everyone having a good time. I went with Brothers BBQ in Denver, CO for my food. It was very reasonable, delicious, and full of variety. I could not have been happier with the choice.
I skipped party favors for my wedding. It has been my experience that guests do not like party favors. Party favors are generally cheap enough that whoever is paying for the wedding can afford them, and cheap enough that guests do not really want one. Weddings add up fast, and party favors is not an area where you are going to get more atmosphere for your money. You just get a lot of knickknacks lying around.
Party favors are also one more thing to worry about. I say skip them. Focus on items that will help you and your guests have a good time; like the DJ, wedding cake, and food.
I hope these tips help. Fall weddings are a magical time, and don’t forget what weddings are all about: Celebrating the union between two people who love each other very much.
