Ammunition is used for the vast majority of ranged weapons in Fallout New Vegas, with each ammo type working for a specific set of guns. Ammo like the 10mm and .357 Magnum is one of the most valuable resources in Fallout New Vegas and should be treated as such. The Scrounger perk can help offset the general scarcity of ammunition, although certain types will always be hard to find. In addition, ammo like the 10mm and .357 Magnum ammunition can be crafted with various workstations scattered throughout the wastes. This new ability to craft ammo is one that should be utilized often, especially for those that like to fight Rambo style, dumping tons of lead into their opponents.
Fallout New Vegas Ammo Types: 10mm

Similar to 9mm in terms of accuracy, however used in faster firing weapons. Superior damage to 9mm although much harder to find.
10mm Hollow Point – Cap Value: 2, Weight: 0.0330, Base ID: 0013e43b
This ammo type gives a damage bonus of +75% at the cost of tripling your targets DT. For light armored targets.
10mm JHP Handload – Cap Value: 1, Weight: 0.0330, Base ID: 00140aa8
Gives a damage bonus of +65% at the cost of doubling your targets DT. Works as a midway between the Hollow Point and Basic varieties.

Gives a damage bonus of +25%, Reduces target DT by 3 and reduces bullet spread by 20%, most powerful ammo type of .357
.38 Special Round – Cap Value: 0, Weight: 0.0350, Base ID: 0015e8ee
Reduces damage by 25% and reduces weapon decay by 25%. Better for rapid firing weapons.
