This guide will cover the Carry Weight or Inventory Weight derived statistic in Fallout: New Vegas. Derived statistics are a second set of values based on your characters primary S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes. There are additional ways of modifying these statistics beyond just increasing your primary attributes and these ways will be covered here, along with information on everything you need to know about Carry Weight. These attributes such as Carry Weight are noticed more often in the mechanics of the game, usually having large impacts on how the game is played.
Carry Weight is essentially how much scavenged loot your character can carry on him or her at any given time without become over encumbered. A player can carry exactly his inventory weight without any penalties whatsoever, however once this limit is surpassed the player becomes over encumbered which causes them to move much slower, disabling running, jumping and the ability to fast travel unless you have the Long Haul perk, which still allows fast travel, although doing so takes more time in game. Continuing to overload yourself can eventually stop movement altogether.
Base Carry Weight is primarily affected by the Strength attribute starting at 160 pounds at 1 point of Strength, increasing by 10 pounds for every point up to 250 pounds at 10 points.

Pack Rat: All items under 2lbs weigh half as much.
Strong Back: Extra 50 pounds of carry weight.
