As I reported as few days ago, my 2011 FANTASY BASEBALL DRAFT GUIDE is available for purchase with incredibly in-depth rankings and analysis on all of the positions around the diamond along with other features about the upcoming season. Below is a small smaple of the FIRST BASEMAN rankings.
1. Albert Pujols: Still the King Of The Hill, Pujols is just ridiculous. The guy is a machine that keeps on churning out video game numbers and he shows no sign of letting up. Its great enough that he hits 40 home runs with over 100 RBI and 100 runs scored while hitting well over .300. What’s more is that Pujols is an adept base stealer as he swiped 14 last season. That’s just not fair. In the past I have argued that Hanley Ramirez should be the top choice due to the fact that he is head and shoulders above any other SS in the game while Joey Votto, Miguel Cabrera, and Ryan Howard are not THAT far behind Pujols and I still stand by that assessment. Still there is no way anyone else deserves to be mentioned before this guy.
Projection: .321 BA 110 R 40 HR 134 RBI 11 SB
2. Joey Votto: The cat is certainly out of the bag when it comes to this guy. I obsessed about this guy almost to the point that I was disturbing myself prior to drafts last season and I reached for the sky in drafting him in the third round in both of my money leagues last season. Needless to say you all know I won both of those leagues for the second time in a row due to moves like this. Obviously the days of getting Votto in the third round are over for the next 8 years or so but if I am sitting in the late middle spot of the first round, than this is the guy I want. Incredibly, Votto was not that far behind statistically speaking than Pujols in 2010 and at 27 years old, we could even see a slight improvement. Votto also led all first baseman in steals with 16 which is like 30 for any other position. Scary indeed.
