In a huge piece of news, it appears as though the New England Patriots are very close to trading WR Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings for a third round draft pick. Moss has only 9 receptions this season and has whined all year about the lack of a contract for next season. Moss wold immediately fill the number 1 wideout role the Vikings have been looking for since Sidney Rice went down while the Pats will lean more heavily on Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez.
Analysis: Wow this is as big a trade as you are going to see during the season. Its almost shocking that the Patriots would trade away their best receiver and someone of Moss’ caliber during the year but its likely all the screaming and yelling he did in looking for a new contract forced their hand. Moss has been rather lame so far this season with only 9 catches but he figures to do great with Favre back home in Minnesota. He will get a ton of looks as the number 1 receiver there and the thought of him teaming with Sidney Rice later in the year is scary for opposing defenses. On the other side of the coin, I don’t see how this doesn’t hurt Tom Brady’s value some as Moss was his biggest TD threat but I am certain he was approached by the front office about this before it went through. Not sure who steps up as the number 1 deep threat but for now Moss’ value goes up and so does that of Favre.
