As always Sunday in fantasy football saw a good number of injuries to noteworthy players. Lets get right to it as this is what we now as of now.
Michael Vick QB-Vick got nailed when he tried to rush into the end zone during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Redskins. He immediately clutched his chest and was in a ton of pain as he exited the field and didn’t return. Rumors started to fly that he had a broken collarbone but that was later proven not to be true. X-rays came back negative and he will now go for an MRI on Monday which will be the last test to get him out of the injury woods. At this point things are looking good for Vick but the MRI will be the final determination.
Darren McFadden RB: McFadden exited with a hamstring issue and didn’t return to the Raiders’ game against the Texans. McFadden was had trouble staying healthy since coming into the league but so far this season he has been one of the best running backs in fantasy football. Balky hamstrings are very tough on running backs and recoveries vary widely. One need only look at Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno who has dealt with a bad hamstring since preseason as solid proof of this issue.
Clinton Portis RB: Portis left in the fourth quarter of the Redskins’ game against the Eagles with a lower leg problem and didn’t return to the game. Portis has been dealing with poor health all season and there is no word yet on the severity. If he has to miss time, Ryan Torain will take his place and he immediately becomes a person of interest.
Ryan Matthews RB: Matthews wasn’t injured on Sunday but during the week in practice as his elbow got dinged up. Mike Tolbert got a ton of work Sunday against the Cardinals but Matthew also ran for 55 yards with a TD. He should be good to go as we head into next week.
Steve Smith WR: Smith was injured during the second half of Carolina’s game against the Saints and had to be carted off the field as it appeared he suffered a leg injury. Smith didn’t return to the game and there is no word on the severity. At this point Smith looks to be in line for a very poor season by his standards due to the QB play.
Jordan Shipley WR: Bengals WR Jordan Shipley got dinged in the head during the Bengals’ game against the Browns and didn’t return. A concussion is probably the issue here but Shipley seemed to be in good spirits on the sideline. Either way Shipley is not much more than a bench option.
There will be more info on these tidbits tomorrow so check back often.
