Celebrity red carpet events frequently go on to influence what the general public craves from fashion. This article looks at the key trends to emerge from the 62nd primetime Emmys that took place on the 29th of August 2010. These trends are likely to filter through to prom, other special occasion and evening looks in the coming months.
Six key Emmy fashion trends for 2010:
1.Strapless, strapless, strapless
The predominate neckline and top style was the strapless. It was worn by all different age groups and in a variety of different moods from classically elegant as worn by Eva Longoria Parker in a black number and Mariska Hargity in a nude creation. To feminine and pretty looks as worn by Julie Ormand in a fuchsia pink design, and Kyra Sedgwick in a soft pleated style. Heidi Klum turned up in a sexy and short little black version and even sixty three year old Glenn Close wore a strapless gown.
2. One-shoulder gowns
Closely following the strapless in popularity, was the one shoulder gown. Asymmetric styles were worn by Bones star Emily Deschanel, comedian Jane Lynch, actress Jane Krakowski and Entourage’s Emmanuelle Chriqui. Most of the one shoulder gowns had a soft, girly look. For example, Emily Deschanel’s gown featured lots of purple ruffles.
3. Neutral colors
There was the odd pop of color here and there, but overall many celebrities stuck to simple neutral shades of black, white, nude and navy.
4. A Grecian influence
Many gowns featured Grecian style draping and pleating. Kim Kardashian wore a white chiffon number that featured a draped bodice, Amber Riley’s design had a very similar appeal. Both of these designs are likely to influence the wedding dress arena. Keri Russell’s dress was all about pleats with a pleated bodice, waist and skirt.
5. Glimmer & Glitz
Beaded styles were a popular look, with Heather Morris, Maria Menounos and Claire Danes wearing gowns that glimmered from top to toe. Tina Fey’s gown featured a beaded overlay and Julianna Margulie, Anna Paquin and Sofia Vergara all wore dresses that featured focal sequin, or beaded areas.
6. Lace accents
Lace accents have been gaining in popularity in the fashion sector once again and this year’s Emmy’s featured some really gorgeous lace details. Dianna Agron stood out from the crowd in a nude and black dress that featured multiple tiers of lace, topped with a bow detail at the waist. Nicole Ari Parker Kodjoe’s dress featured a glamorous lace panel that wrapped around her body.
