Obesity is the number one health hazard in America. The percentage of obesity in each state has raised increasingly in the past 5 years. Each state has their own special food and can be the cause of obesity.
Alabama- Alabama has the highest rate of obesity in America. The state is known best for their Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf. Greatest Chef of the Greer’s Market says that it is ordered on a weekly basis. This delicious dish is also hazardous to the health of Alabama locals. In the meatloaf there is a 3 ounce serving of 80% lean meat and contains 14 grams of fat. Each slice of bacon is an extra 3 grams of fat.
Alaska- Alaska is known for their Eskimo Ice Cream. This is a native dish and was traditionally made with meat from bears, seals, and fish. It is now served with reindeer meat, seal oil, blackberries, and salmon berries. Eskimo Ice Cream is hard to estimate the exact amount of fat and trans fat this dish contains. Mostly it depends on the serving. Reindeer meat alone, contains 91 grams of fat. The berries and seal oil are 9 grams each.
Arizona- The state that takes fatty foods to a whole new level is known for their Quadruple Bypass Burger. Arizona throws off an annual cook-off every year. The event is called the Heart Attack Grill. Every patron weighing over 350 pounds gets in to the cook-off for free. This is also where their famous quadruple burger is served. The burger has been proven to be over 8,000 calories. The four patties alone have 60 grams in each patty. Everything else that is on the burger adds up the rest of the 8,000 calories, such as the bread, the cheese, ketchup, etc. Being over the limit of calories, it is proven if a woman eats this delicious burger, she is eating over 4 times the calories a woman is expected to eat every day.
Arkansas- States of the south are known for frying anything and everything. Arkansas catfish is a traditional dish served with hush puppies and other fried foods. There is 25 grams of fat for every serving.
California- California is recognized for thin sculpted bodies. On the other hand, they are known for their love of In-and-Out burgers. The Double Double seems to be the most popular and doubles the fat of McDonald’s cheeseburgers. Double Double cheeseburgers contain 41 grams each serving. McDonald’s burgers contains 23 grams of fat.
Colorado- This state has a well-known reputation for being one of the most healthy states in America and obtains the lowest rate of obesity. Colorado is home to the largest burritos of all time. The infamous burrito of this state is Jack-N-Grill’s 7 pound breakfast burrito. This burrito has gained so much attention that it appeared on an episode of “Man V. Food.” A pound of ham and 12 eggs in the 7 pound burrito is 100 grams of fat, alone. The cheese and the chili contain another 50 grams each.
Connecticut- Connecticut’s 2-foot-long hot dog also appeared on the T.V. show, “Man V. Food.” This dish is available in the city of Hartford in 24 locations, not including other cities magnificent cities in this state. The 2-foot-long hot dog is buried in half a pound of extra and additional toppings. A foot-long hot dog is 34 grams of fat alone. Because this dog is 2 feet long, the grams of fat are doubled, plus the toppings of chili and cheddar cheese.
Delaware- The first state known for fried pastry, takes an amazing twist on it’s health hazards. This dish, known as the Deep Fried Pastry, is stuffed with cheese, crabmeat, mayonnaise, seasonings, and oil. The crabmeat is already low in fat and can actually be quite healthy for any human being. But this recipe is high in mayonnaise and butter, filling the pastry with loads of fat. One pastry has been added up to be over 20 grams of fat.
Florida- Infamous on the south side of Florida for their folded meat pies, entitled Empanadas. Depending on the chef, the dough is filled with either meat, cheese, veggies or all of the above. Once again, depending on the recipes, Empanadas can range between 10 to 22 grams of fat for each fold. Of course, the veggies fall in to the nutrition category but the dough is what throws it off and gives it a fatty subject.
Georgia- The Luther Burger has a story behind it that not a lot of people know or wonder about. The Luther Burger was invented in a suburban bar and named after the famous R&B singer, Luther Vandross. Luther Burger appeared on the “Paula Dean Show” and was topped with her only little recipe. Ground beef, bacon, and cheese are in the middle of two glazed donuts. No buns for this burger! Two Krispey Kreme donuts are 24 grams of fat each and the patty is worth another 16 grams of fat, not including the cheese and bacon.
Hawaii- The Loco Moco legend dates back all the way to 1949 and was put together by the owner of Hilo’s Lincoln Grill. This dish is made up of white rice, beef patties, gravy and other toppings of your choice. The beef patties range in around 32 grams of fat and the mushroom gravy has one ounce of fat. Along with the other toppings, the grams of fat vary. For instance, if you were to add on an egg, that would be an extra 10 ounces on top of the large amount of calories you are already taking in.
Idaho- This sate is known for their best topping yet, Bleu Cheese Dressing. A state known for it’s potatoes, the chefs and residents are always looking for new ideas, new dressings, and new topping for their potatoes. The Bleu Cheese Dressing seems to be the most popular. Bleu cheese and hickory bacon is all that makes up of this delicious dressing. Only two tablespoons over the dressing is over 16 grams of fat. That’s as much as a cheeseburger from Burger King!
Illinois- The Deep-dish pizza is native in Chicago and was formed in 1943. There is no need to describe this dish only because everyone has had a slice of pizza! A little known fact for the hungry, pizza is one of the most fattiest foods in the world. One serving of the cheese and tomato dish is 40 grams of fat. Adding on toppings such as; pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, etc. adds on another 55 grams.
Indiana- Indiana is best known for their pork products and have made the best recipes in America. Their fried-brain sandwich dates back to the spread of mad cow disease. This sandwich contains oil, pork brains, bun, pickles, and onions. A six ounce scoop of the brain batter averages to about 24 grams of fat. Most customers go for the pork only without the brains. The pork alone is 18 grams of fat.
Iowa- The Hot Beef Sunday was showed off the very first time at Iowa State Fair and became a huge hit in the food market. Filled with mashed potatoes, beef gravy, roast beef, and cheddar cheese, the hot beef Sunday can be a bit fatty. The Sunday served at the fair contains over 25 grams of fat. Other recipes may vary.
Kansas- In the Kansas Barbecue world, charred ends of a brisket are a delicacy. The recipes and grams of fat vary, depending on ingredients. Average grams of fat are between 10 and 12 grams.
Kentucky- Of course, known for their Kentucky Fried Chicken fast food restaurants, chicken is infamous in this state. The dish served the most and seems to be every order of a local is KFC’s Double Down. This sandwich contains two fried chicken pieces, bacon, two different types of cheeses, and a special KFC sauce. Looking as good as can be, the sandwich is 32 grams of fat, each serving.
Louisiana- A fried dough pastry, topped with powdered sugar is known as a Beignet in the state of Louisiana. This state is also known for it’s sweets in sit-down cafes. Statistics show the best place to feast on a beignet is Louisiana’s Cafe Du Monde. This place serves three of these fried pastries at once. There is 11 grams of fat in each beignet. The grams of fat in each pastry is just as much as a McDonald’s cheeseburger.
Maine- Known for the cold weather and best sea foods in the world. There infamous dish is known as the Lobster Roll and is filled with tasty, fatty substances. Seafood can actually be very healthy for you, but once in the hands of restraunts, it can be turned in to a fatty dish. The Lobster Roll is smothered in mayo and butter, lobster meat, cucumber, hot dog bun, pepper, salt, and scallions. Grams of fat vary, depending on the recipe. Served in Maine can turn out to 22 grams of fat. In other states and restaurants, it will turn out to be about 34 grams of fat.
Maryland- Smith Island Cake is the official dessert dish in the state of Maryland. This cake got it’s name from a famous island in the state. There are 10 layers of vanilla or chocolate cake, either made from scratch or are homemade. Also, there is chocolate icing on top and in between the layers of cake. Each serving is 26 grams of fat.
Massachusetts- The recipes and large amounts of butter is the problem of a chocolate chip cookie. It is a proven fact that the size of the cookie is what matters and can be the worst treat around. The first chocolate chip cookie was made in 1937 in Boston, home of the cookie. A small cookie can go up to 12 grams of fat. A larger cookie served in a bakery, or fast food restaurant, ranges around 71 grams of fat.
Michigan- BLT’s are America’s favorite, semi-healthy sandwich. But in Michigan, BLT’s and large sandwiches hold a different story. Michigan holds the largest sandwiches in the world, along with the biggest BLT in the world. This BLT is so tasty, it appeared on the Travel Channel’s “Sandwich Paradise.” Each BLT served in Michigan holds over a pound of bacon between the buns. Along with the pound of bacon, there are 20 strips of lettuce and tomatoes. The pound of bacon alone is over 192 grams of fat!
Minnesota- Being the land of 10,000 lakes, Michigan is also known for the chain of Dairy Queens. Dairy Queen is not only popular for their ice cream, but there Flamethrower Grill burger. The burger contains a half pound of ground beef, special Dairy Queen sauce, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. In this yummy treat, there are 75 grams of fat and 26 grams of saturated fat.
Mississippi- Mississippi is the second state in America with the highest obesity rate. They are well known for their mud pies and this just may be part of the obesity problem. The pie consists of cream cheese, ice cream, pudding mix, chocolate, cream, sugar and butter. Mud pies made in restaurants are around 35 grams of fat. A homemade mud pie clocks in around 24-36 grams of fat.
Missouri- Known for some of the fattiest foods in the world, Missouri is best known for it’s 2/3 Lb. Monster Thick Burger from Hardee’s. This burger is filled with 1/3 pound of beef patties, 4 slices of bacon, 3 slices of American cheese, mayo, and a sesame seed bun. There are 95 grams of fat and 36 grams of saturated fat, in this burger. This contains for than 6 times of fat in a regular Hardee’s burger.
Montana- Montana is known for their infamous Rocky Mountain Oysters. This dish is essentially made up of calf testicles. Other ingredients are salted water, buttermilk, vegetables, oil and lard. The grams of fat are hard to determine because of the recipe. The fried lard is 5 grams of fat, alone.
Nebraska- The Eskimo Pie was invented in 1921 and is made up of ice cream and a car bars. The ice cream flavor is vanilla and the candy bar is Nestle chocolate crunch. There is 13 grams of fat in every bar.
Nevada- Of course, Las Vegas is filled with many places like casinos, hotels, and showgirls. But Las Vegas is mostly known for it’s large amount of buffets. Each buffet was built in the 1940’s. There is a huge variety of foods and desserts to choose from. Researchers have come to the conclusion that people tend to over eat and not realize when they are full. This causes excessive weight gaining.
New Hampshire- This is another state that serves a great serving of seafood. They are best known for their New England Clam Chowder soup. The soup is made up of cream, water, potatoes, clams, salt, seasonings, and butter. The creamy matter in the soup is what makes up of most of the fat. Only a 12 ounce serving of this dish is 34 grams of fat and 20 grams of saturated fat.
New Jersey- In 1997, Darrel W. Butler decided to put all of his favorite foods into one roll. Later, it then became the Fat Darrel super size sandwich, known best in New Jersey. Mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, marinara sauce, lettuce, french fries, and of course a roll, is what made up of this delicious sandwich. The Fat Darrel is over 45 grams of fat.
New Mexico- The Frito Pie was invented in the 1930’s and has been a huge hit in New Mexico since. The original Frito pie was just chili on top of Frito lays. Over the years, people have put their own twist on it and new recipes have been discovered. Most restaurants serve it with; Lettuce, cheese, tomato, jalapenos, beans, onions, beef, and of course, Frito’s. It always depends on the topping when it comes to averaging out the grams of fat. Let’s just say that all of the above are served, there would be 46 grams of fat and 14 grams of saturated fat.
New York- The Empire state is home to many things, but they are best known for their Garbage Plate. The feast is filled with sauce, mustard, meat, onions, beans and potatoes. This plate was originated in 1918. Not including the ingredients I have just given you, believe it or not, there is more! There is also fries, macaroni, and chicken tenders. All of this amounts to 3 pounds of food! The grams of fat for this dish range between 93-203 grams of fat.
North Carolina- Livermush is made up of 30% pig liver and pig parts. Anyone but the locals wouldn’t be very turned on to the dish, but you would be surprised. Livermush has been put into pizzas and omletes. In livermush, there is pig parts, pig livers, salt, cornmeal, and pepper. Each serving of livermush is 30 grams of fat.
North Dakota- Fleischkuechle was made by the German immigrants hundreds of years ago. A Fleischkuechle is meat wrapped in fried dough. Some recipes add eggs, flower, onion, buttermilk, salt, and pepper. With all of the above ingredients, there are 19 grams of fat in each service.
Ohio- Bob Evan’s Sausage Biscuit Bowl was founded in 1948. Bob Evan’s restaurant has 19 chains in all different states and the breakfast bowl seems to be the favorite in Ohio. The breakfast bowl is huge and filled with tasty foods such as; fries, eggs, sausage, gravy, cheese, and onions. There are 61 grams of fat and 28 grams of saturated fat.
Oklahoma- Chicken Fried Steak was officially added to the list of fatty foods in 1988. The beef is covered in batter and is fried like chicken, with gravy on top. There are many ways to make this dish and a lot of people add their own splash of flavor. The typical chicken fried steak goes for 26 grams of fat, not including a side dish.
Oregon- Oregon is another state that serves huge burgers. There is one in particular called the Brunchbox’s Redonkadonk. The Brunchbox is a popular food vender in Oregon. The Redonkadonk is filled with ham, eggs, cheese and bacon on a beefy patty between two buns. Altogether, this sandwich is over 30 grams of fat.
Pennsylvania- The best foods in Pennsylvania are also the fattiest. The Philly Cheese Steak was invented in 1930 and is now one of the best foods in the world. Philly cheese steaks are made up of onions, cheese and beef. A 6-inch cheese steak varies around 18-45 grams of fat.
Rhode Island- In the late 1930’s, the New York System Hot Wieners were invented in Rhode Island. The hot wieners are obviously made up of hot dogs and are smothered in onions, mustard, celery, and ground beef. The dog is over 28 grams of fat, not including the ground beef.
South Carolina- Home of the turducken and one of the best foods for a Thanksgiving feast. This is made up of turkey, chicken, duck, stuffing. The turkey is stuffed with the duck and chicken and the left over meat is put on the side. Depending on the recipe, this dish can range between 14 and 118 grams of fat.
South Dakota- Frybread is fried, dough dessert and is filled with fatty sweets. This dish became the state bread in 2005. Generally, frybread is made up of sugar, lard, salt, and flour. Each serving of the frybread is 25 grams of fat.
Tennessee- Ruby Tuesday’s was discovered in 1972. It is now chained in almost 900 locations in America. Tennessee is known for their Triple Prime Bacon Chedder burger from Ruby Tuesday’s. There is 8 ounce of beef in between the buns, along with cheddar, smoked bacon, tomato, and lettuce. There is 115 grams of fat in this yummy burger!
Texas- The corn dog was invented in 1942 in Texas and has been popular ever since. Because of the corn dog, mostly everything in Texas is now deep-fried. The hot dog is deep-fried and wrapped in a corn flour matter. There are 19 grams of fat in each corn dog.
Utah- This dish is similar to frybread but different in it’s own way. The Scone is made up of sugar, water, yeast, egg and dough. Scone can be eaten alone, or dipped in butter or sweets. Depending on the recipe, the scone can range between 6-10 grams of fat.
Vermont- Ben and Jerry’s are known for their sweat treats, such as; ice cream, yogurt, cookies, and fruity sorbets. But in the state of Vermont, Ben and Jerry’s Vermonster is the most popular dessert in the state. In the Vermonster, there are 20 scoops of ice cream, brownies, cookies, fudge, and of course, any topping of your choice. This desert ranges between 120-400 grams of fat, depending on toppings and flavors.
Virginia- Virginia is widely known for their ham products and the recipes that come with it. Ham is the fattiest meat to choose out of all meat products. Ham is generally made up of pig and is given a taste of salt and sugary glazes. One serving of ham is between 7-9 grams of fat.
Washington- This state is known for healthy lifestyles and healthy foods, but of course, not everything is as healthy as it seems. The Crab Louis Salad for example, is only fatty because of the smothered mayo and dressing. The ingredients are typical salad ingredients, plus crabmeat and sweet pickles. There are 15-25 grams of fat, each serving.
West Virginia- The Hillbilly Hot Dog’s 10 pound burger has appeared on many food channels and is the most popular burger of the state. Wisconsin- At many fairs and carnivals in this state, deep-fried cheese curds are most popular. Cheese curds are made up of milk and/or beer, cheese, sugar and flour. This tasty dish adds up to 40 grams of fat, each serving.
Wyoming- Lamb isn’t the worst meat to choose from, but it isn’t the best either. Lamb chops are the ribs of the animal and the fattiest part of the body. A 3 ounce serving of lamb chops range from 10-12 grams.
