Podcasts are a must have in my busy life full of car pools, menu planning, and grocery shopping, schoolwork, and extra curricular activities. It is where I can find my balance and gain some insight into parenting when I don’t have much time for reading. When I am on the go my 2 favorite parenting podcasts are “The Mighty Mommy”, who gives quick and dirty tips for practical parenting and “Manic Mommies” who provide a peak into the real life of two working mothers trying to do it all and stay sane.
I love The Mighty Mommy’s podcast when I need that bit of advice to help in dealing with everyday practical issues like giving my child daily choices and when and how to discipline defiant children to avoid the power struggles. Mighty Mommy host Cherylyn Feierabend has a delightful way of making me feel like I am listening to a best girlfriend while offering healthy solutions to parenting issues. Raising healthy and confident children is my among my top priorities and “The Mighty Mommy” has some great insight and view points that work well with my parenting style. In fact, The Positive Parenting podcast worked wonders for me. I used the suggestions in the podcast to re-direct my daughter, who is now 6 years old, from undesirable behaviors without using the words “Don’t” or “No” at all. Every child needs to be re-directed from time to time and with these suggestions, I was able to speak positively rather than beginning with a negative request. All of the “don’ts” and No’s” were really beginning to fall on deaf ears so it was a much needed change but it was so simple at the same time. The results make my life and my daughter’s life so much more enjoyable. You can find The Mighty Mommy’s podcasts oniTunes for free or you can also go directly to their website to listen to their podcasts.
Another favorite parenting podcast of mine is “Manic Mommies” created by Erin Kane and Kristin Brandt, both are writers for Real Simple Magazine. This hilariously engaging duo knows how to present parenting tips in a humorous yet relatable fashion. One of my all time favorite podcasts from this team is entitled “Motherhood is the new MBA” in which the author of the same entitled book gives insight into the importance of each task in motherhood and how the experience and expertise can be translated to the work place environment. You can find this podcast throughiTunes, or many other platforms, the easiest being The Manic Mommies website.
If you haven’t discovered the world of podcasts,I suggest you hop over to these fabulous parenting podcasts and give it a whirl. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be hooked after the first episode.
