The Ferndale City Council held their regular meeting this Monday, November 22nd. Among many other items on the agenda, key to the discussion this time around was the process for filling the mayoral seat once Mayor Covey is sworn in as an Oakland County Commissioner in January.
There is not a formal selection process per se, other than the selection of a Mayor Pro-Tem, which in this case has been awarded to Councilwoman Baker. The Mayor Pro-Tem may serve for up to 30 days after the mayoral seat is vacated, but after that a mayor must be selected.
After some discussion, the council decided that the CIty Clerk would post the position online, and that after a deadline of December 27th, 2010, the council will review applicants and conduct short interviews. The new mayor will then be chosen by the council on January 24th, 2011.
