Ferndale High School now has a second college specialist to not only help students get accepted into colleges, but also to prepare them to succeed once they get there. That brings the total number of college specialists in the district up to four.
Ferndale is now one of the better equipped school districts in Michigan to help students get into college. The addition of a new specialist position this school year meant that more attention could be paid to individual students. They focus on seniors, helping with transcripts and college applications, but this year will also start working with lower grades to help get the word out earlier.
A college specialist will typically deal with around 30 students or more per day.
