University of Detroit-Mercy will honor its all-time leading scorer by retiring his jersey. Ferndale high school graduate Rashad Phillips will have his number retired to the rafters of the school’s Calihan Hall.
The ceremony will take place before tip-off at the first home game of the season, November 19th’s bout against Indiana Tech. Phillips got to go to two NCAA tournaments during his years at the school, and his time off the court in recent years has been spent helping Detroit-area children.
Phillips was the two-time League Player of the Year, and racked up more than 2,300 points, only the second player in Detroit-Mercy history to score over 2,000. He is the school leader in overall points, free throws, three-pointers, and second in steals.
