Questions of police entrapment are being raised this week, as news surfaced that police officers used fake patient ids to buy medical marijuana from a dispensing facility. The Oakland officers used a county computer to print the ids, which made them look authentic.
Under scrutiny by dispensary employees, the ids would’ve looked legitimate, which is leading some to charge the officers with entrapment. The police officers had been refused several times before when they tried to gain entrance with other fake documents, but tricked the employees with their final ploy of the fake patient ids.
The company that was raided is taking their case to court, but Oakland Police have been quick to defend their tactics, saying that the ids are a legitimate way to catch violators, and pointed out that dispensaries are illegal in Michigan to begin with. The case will be going before the state appeals courts.
