The Ferndale City Council named Fire Captain Kevin Sullivan the chief of the fire department and Police Captain Timothy Collins the chief of police. Sullivan was approved for promotion by the Civil Service Board on July 12, 2010 and Collins was approved on the same day. They were both interviewed by the City Council on Aug.10. They were both officially named to their new positions on Aug. 23. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their similarities.
Both men were born and raised in Ferndale and were friends with each other as youngsters because their fathers were close. Both of their families had cottages on the same lake in northern Michigan, cottages they now own. Both graduated from Ferndale High School and both wrestled and played football there.
The Ferndale City Council is excited to have two life-long Ferndale residents in the positions and is confident their ties to Ferndale will only help them succeed in their new roles.
