My sister graduated law school last year and has found her dream job. Her birthday is coming up soon and I was thinking for an attorney what kind of gift should I get. She’s never at home, always at work, so getting something nice for the house or kitchen just won’t work. The perfect gift has to be something she can use everyday, at work, or in the car.
Some ideas that pop right out are things like paper weights, desk accessories, or other office items. However, it’s hard to decide what item would fit her personality at work. I thought about having something engraved like a pen or a name plate because that’s not something a person buys for themselves so she probably doesn’t have one.
A picture frame was an idea that is fairly common but after thinking about it she probably doesn’t want her desk cluttered with pictures when she’s trying to work. Plus, there is a line of professional decorum that she has to adhere to so a picture frame may be inappropriate.
I saw a website that allows you to have a paper weight engraved or made into the shape of an award. That idea seemed like a nice idea; having a glass star engraves with something that says “you’re the best, you’re number one, etc) but then I thought that might not be a good idea because it’s not a true award which may not look professional in her office.
The ideas that actually had promise included an engraved key chain or a coffee mug with fruit dipped in chocolate from Edible Arrangements. Edible Arrangements is a company that offers bouquets of fruit some if it dipped in chocolate; ever since I received one myself I decided that I would never buy flowers again. We also enjoy a nice glass of wine and had a great trip to a winery on one of our sister visits; so I was considering engraved wine stoppers. Then there were thoughts of a nice throw blanket, a fluffy bathrobe, or a gift certificate to her favorite spa.
