Do you feel like the economy and negative news is too much? Is the stress of your job making you feel like you want to hide for the world? Here are some suggestions that within ten days can make your life happier. Come join me on this ten day journey!
Day 1- Joy!
We experience joy all around us, if we are open and mindful of nature’s sounds and sights. Sometimes we are so busy we forget to look at the clouds or hear the birds singing. Even in winter, the trees have something to say. They may appear barren, but have you ever noticed their beautiful shape and how their bareness has a beauty of its own?
The people we see daily can also give us joy. For example, we can experience joy when someone smiles at us. It seems like such a simple gesture, yet they are glad to see us and are making an effort to let us know that. What about the laugh of a child or a baby? Or the love of a kitten or puppy? If we stop to think about it, joy can be heard and seen without effort.
Why is it important to be joyful? Joy can help us find our inner strength and peace. It helps us be caring and thoughtful. People enjoy others who are positive: its human nature. However, the main reason to be joyful is that is helps us feel good about ourselves and others. It is much easier to be positive when we are joyful. It is easier to handle the challenges of each day when we an effort to see the joy around us.
Today I will be mindful of the joy around me!
Day 2- Hope!
We all need to hope. Especially if we are having a difficult time and don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is hard to feel hopeful when we are sad or feel overwhelmed. We can become so focused on our pain that hope seems impossible. Today, I ask you to open your eyes, ears and heart. There are some very simple, yet profound, ways to see hope.
It is always amazing to me how each twenty-four hour cycle goes from night to day, including the slow progression from sleep to wakefulness. I emphasize being awake! Each day provides new hope and new possibilities. Yesterday, we might have made mistakes, but today, we have a whole new day to start anew. We can try not to make the same mistakes. It is a new beginning! Can you see today from this perspective? When you wake up, slowly open your eyes and realize the gift you have been given'”the gift of today! It is another chance to live. Another chance to show people we love them, just as we talked about, yesterday.
Have you noticed the hope a baby brings? New birth! A new, precious little life in our world, just waiting for love and care. Babies have a fresh beginning; a whole book of life to be lived! They remind us of hope.
There is also hope found in some literature and poetry. Perhaps there is a poem, prayer, or song that reminds you of hope. If you can’t think of one, do a little research today. and find something that touches your heart and gives you hope.
After you start your day with hopefulness, think about bringing hope to others. Speak an encouraging word, teach a skill, and help someone reach their potential, or perhaps provide someone in your family with a fresh word of hope. You’ll be glad you did!
Today I will reflect on the gift of life and hope. I will try and bring hope to others.
Day Three- Loneliness
From time to time, we all experience loneliness. We can look at nature and realize that we are one with the flowers, trees and sky. We are a part of each person we meet. We are all connected. Everyone we meet is our brother or sister. Each is created by the same Holy Master. The oceans, mountains, streams, stars and cumulus clouds. All are created to give us life and beauty. If we are mindful of these gifts, we know we are never alone.
If you are feeling lonely, think of someone else and how you can help them. Stop focusing on your own loneliness. You will not only help another person, but also help yourself. Participating in an activity of some kind can also assist you in dealing with loneliness. This can be anything you enjoy; writing, music, art, playing card games with a fried, or going for a walk through the park.
If we turn to nature, people and activities it will improve our spirits and lift our sorrow. Realize that you can cope with sad feelings. They will eventually leave or become less intense. You are not alone. You have your Creator, nature, and other people who care for you. Live life to the fullest, and enjoy what our wonderful Creator has done!
Today I will not let loneliness overwhelm me.
Day Four- Perseverance
We all have challenges, and sometimes they seem enormous. We wonder if this is a mountain we can climb. It appears insurmountable, with so many barriers to overcome. How can we possibly start our journey? We start with one step. Then another. We can develop our own map and path; a plan to help us up the mountain. It helps if we are able to see some of the beauty surrounding us. Did someone help us with a task, today? Were there flowers or clouds we noticed? All of these gifts will help make our path a little easier
For some people, it helps to have a companion to share their journey. Perhaps they want to follow the same path. They may be able to understand your problems. May I suggest someone with a positive attitude who feels that you both can make it to the top?
Celebrate each small victory in some way, and continue your trek. Don’t look back! Focus on making it up the mountain. As you travel, be mindful of what you are learning. What new skills are you acquiring? Are you learning about yourself? Consider the different people you have met. What have you learned about them? Before you know it, you will have reached the top. You did it! Now it is time to really celebrate. Let your dancing begin!
Today I will persevere in faith and courage.
Day Five- Fun
In our daily lives, we can become absorbed with our responsibilities and challenges. We feel overwhelmed and think life is too difficult. We may wonder how we are going to get through the day. What we forget is that we have formed our own path. Yes, life has challenges and sometimes major crises. I am not making light of those or discounting them. However, we always have control over how we choose to handle life’s challenges.
We need a measure of fun daily in our lives. You can sing in the shower, or dance to music. You can make a loving or funny card to give a friend or family member. You can do any number of things. Why do you need fun? Because it will help you, not only physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. It has been proven that laughter is healthy for us. It gives us energy and enables us to be more loving and caring. Generally, it makes life more enjoyable, and it feeds our creativity and fun-loving abilities.
Sometimes, we are taught that, as adults, we must assume responsibility and care for our families. That is true. But not at the expense of giving up fun and being creative or feeling free. Watch puppies or kittens as they play. Look at children playing or creating an art project. Many times, we can see animals and people having fun. Young children and some older adults seem to share that joy. Have you not seen a loving grandparent playing with their grandchild?
Today, look around and find someone or something involved with fun. Then, do at least one thing you enjoy. You can do that, right? Remember, with art, there is no wrong or right. You can dance at home and choose your own style. No one is watching. So, no excuses. Go have fun!
Today I will make time to have fun
