Instead of going out to buy new Christmas candles this year just do something to make your current candles have Christmas themes! There are lots of quick crafts and projects you can do to give most any candle a whole new look! But, don’t worry; the candles can be quickly returned to their original state when the holiday is over.
Cut a piece of Christmas gift wrap or scrapbook paper into a circle. If you want, use regular or special scissors to make designs around the edges. Laminate the paper and trim it to fit the picture. Set these under candles to make drip pads that will catch any falling wax. Take the craft one step further and glue on a circle of garland, around the edges, to make a wall around the pad.
Use wired garland to make a quick candle ring that looks fabulous. Simply form a length of garland into a circle shape and wire it in place. Set it around the candle. Decorate it with small ornaments or even glue on tiny pine cones or beads.
Make another candle wreath by starting with a metal ring from a craft store. Use clear, plastic baggies, the ones with the flap, to make the candle décor. Cut the sides of the flap so that you can fold it upwards. Fold the bag in half, twice, then tie it onto the ring. Add another and another until the ring is full. Fluff the baggies and you have an elegant ring that you’ll truly love. Instead of baggies you can use ordinary garland or rope tinsel to make the candle ring.
Make candle wraps by simply cutting pieces of Christmas-theme scrapbook paper, cloth or gift wrap. Cut it to be a little less wide than the candle is tall. Wrap the paper or fabric around the candle and use double-sided tape to secure it.
Slide a red, green or other bead onto a long piece of thin wire. Twist the wire once to secure the bead. Skip a few inches, slide on another bead, and twist. Continue doing this until you have a long strand of beaded wire. Wrap the wire around and around a candle to instantly give it a Christmas theme. Secure the ends of the wire by simply pushing them into the wax, at the top and bottom.
You can save money by turning existing candles into Christmas varieties, but if you don’t want the changes to be permanent, use some of the techniques explained here. With these candle crafts your candles can be temporarily changed for nearly any occasion – then restored in seconds!
