Watching videos and movies is a convenience provided by a DVD drive, and most newer laptops contain this function. If you use your DVD drive on a regular basis, you may run into issues with the functionality of the computer’s drive. This is usually a result of the regularly moving the computer, and the DVD drive may get jarred in the process. You may be able to repair the DVD drive with a few basic items.
Aim the nozzle of a compressed air can into the inside of the laptops DVD drive. First , empty the drive of any DVDs. Push in the “Eject” button to open the disc tray on the DVD drive. Hold the can on an angle or it could spray out liquid that could harm the computer. The compressed air should remove the particle buildup from the laser lens. It this does not repair the drive, then continue to the following step.
Gently rub the entire outside of a DVD with a lint-free cloth to take off any particles. DVDs will usually not work if they are not clean. Place the DVD in the driver to see if it plays. If the DVD still will not work, the issue may be with the disc itself any not the drive.
Push the DVD into another computer’s drive to figure out if the issue is with the DVD or disc drive on the laptop. There is most likely something wrong with the laptop’s disc drive if it works in the other computer. If it does not play, then there may not be anything wrong with the laptop’s disc drive.
Set up an updated DVD driver on the laptop computer to resolve the problems. Occasionally DVD drivers will need a new version for it to work. Write down the model located on the outside of the DVD tray.
Find the manufacturer’s website and type in the model number on the product page. Choose the “Support and Downloads” option and download the necessary DVD driver updates. Follow the directions on screen and once it is finished, restart the computer. This should remedy the DVD drive problems.
