Nearly everyone in the Flathead Valley is feeling the economic crunch. We have all had to tighten our belts. So shopping for Christmas gifts is bound to strain our budgets even more; but it doesn’t have to be stressful. Making food baskets is an answer which is both frugal and practical in these tough times.
Finding the ideal basket is easy. Starting from the high end, Pier I just north of Kalispell is the place to find a decorative basket. In that same area is T.J. MAX where there is a great selection of baskets for a good price, or there is the Dollar Store a few feet from Pier I where basket bargains abound. Now, if you’re really on a tight budget and want to support a good cause as you buy, check out the huge Salvation Army store just south of the County Court House, or browse through the Flathead Industry shops in Kalispell, Whitefish, and Columbia Falls.
What to put into the ‘foodie’ food basket is the fun part. Here, again, individual budget makes a difference. One place to shop, for sure, is Perfect Cuts just off Highway #40 in Columbia Falls. They have products like relishes, chutneys, and mustards not available anywhere else in the Flathead. Their meat quality and selection is the very best locally. A variety of mustards or vinegars could easily fill a food basket and please the recipient.
The local grocery stores are money saving places to shop on Black Friday for food gifts. The olive bar at the new Safeway in Whitefish is a great place to find a gourmet gift which would be greatly appreciated and would be budget friendly. Super Ones throughout Flathead Valley are carrying Artisan Cheeses. These specialty cheeses, which are new to this area, would be perfect for an adventurous gourmand on your shopping list.
Have fun shopping in the Flathead on Black Friday!
