If you’re looking for a way to have a cheap Christmas tree this year, you may want to consider these free Christmas tree craft ideas. Any of the Christmas trees can be made larger and taller.
Tips for Materials for the Free Christmas Tree Craft Ideas
Shop at your local thrift stores first. Many times you will find Christmas decorations, doilies, sometimes tomato cages, not so gently used books, and other items that can be used for crafts.
Check your already purchased Christmas decorations for items that can be used. If you have tons of garland, you can save on buying new for making a couple of these trees.
If you have quite a few dry cleaning done or your company pays to have your uniforms laundered, you can use the hangers for the coat hanger tree.
Make a list of all items needed for any of the trees before heading out the door, this will save you from making future unneeded trips for more supplies.
Be sure to decide how tall you want your tree to be. My taking measurements and figuring how much of the materials will be needed can help in the cost of the tree.
Free Christmas Tree Craft Ideas
Below are six free Christmas tree craft ideas that can be used to help decorate a small office or dorm room area. By using one of these homemade Christmas trees, you can save money and have fun decorating.
Pinecone Christmas Trees by Susan Spatone
I have seen similar pinecone trees at Hobby Lobby, Wal-mart and other places. Those pinecone Christmas trees start at around $15 and go up from there. By collecting pinecones yourself and using the materials in this craft project, you can make one for a fraction of the cost. If you make a pinecone tree using the largest Styrofoam cone you can find with the other materials, you more than likely will still be under the $15 mark.
Pine Cone Christmas Trees by Jane Lake
This is a different style of Christmas tree using pinecones. These would be cute pinecone Christmas trees to make for an office, work space, senior centers or other places. They don’t take up much room and can be placed on book cases, in the center of a table, desks, or other areas that usually don’t get much attention during the time we decorate for Christmas.
Make a Doily Christmas Tree by Jane Lake
The best thing about this doily Christmas tree is you don’t have to know how to crochet. You can shop around at regular retail stores or thrift stores to find the doilies needed for this Christmas tree craft idea. Sometimes you can find the clay flower pots at a thrift store as well. Instead of using the white pencil crayon, a dowel rod the length of a colored pencil or pencil will work.
Tomato Cage Christmas Tree
Providing you can find tomato cages this time of year, this would be a great way to make a Christmas tree. I had a dream that I made one similar to this one. Rather than it sitting on the ground, I had attached it to a pole for it to sit higher off the ground like a Christmas tree does.
In the dream I had used floral tape to secure the narrow end of the tomato cage to the top of the pole; not sure if that would hold the tomato cage in place. I had taped the garland, both pine style and green tinsel garland to the top after getting the tomato cage in place. I had three little kids who ran around the tree as if they were running around a Maypole to get the garland in place. Once the garland was in place, they clipped the ends in place at the bottom. Then it was decorated with their own homemade Christmas tree decorations.
Recycled Coat Hanger Christmas Tree
This Christmas tree is made using the wire hangers often found from dry cleaners. The coat hanger Christmas tree is small enough that it will fit on any small round table in a dorm room at college.
Paper Back Christmas Tree by Jane Lake
This is a table top Christmas tree that is made from a paperback book. If you’re going to use a paperback book, try to use one that’s in the worst condition possible. This way you won’t be ruining a perfectly good paperback book. Even if the edges are torn, it still can be used because they will be folded inside the book. Not only that, any part that is torn and showing will give this tree more character.
