With the winter holidays approaching, it is almost time for Friendly’s restaurants to offer their delicious Peppermint Stick Ice Cream. Every year, near Christmas and Chanukah, this restaurant chain on America’s east coast features Peppermint Stick Ice Cream for a limited time. Available in cartons to – go and in cones, bowls and sundaes at their restaurants, this variety of ice cream is eagerly anticipated each year by many people.
Presented here, in an effort to assist the consumer, is one food writer’s product review of Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream.
The net weight of the standard – sized carton of Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream is 1.42 quart. According to the package label, the container holds twelve 1/2 cup (67 grams) servings. In physical size, the container is fairly large and takes up a decent amount of freezer space.
The regular retail price charged for one 1.42 quart container of Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream at Hartford, Connecticut area Friendly’s restaurants is approximately $5.49. While I do think that this price is high, I also realize that Friendly’s ice cream is a very high – quality product.
The texture of Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream is very pleasing. As with any variety of Friendly’s ice cream, it is very smooth and creamy, but enlivened by the presence of small pieces of peppermint candy. The peppermint candy pieces add some crunchy contrast to the base ice cream, creating a frozen treat that offers a very satisfying mouth – feel.
Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream contains 150 calories, with 60 calories from fat, per 1/2 cup serving. This tasty ice cream also contains 4.5 grams of saturated fat, 7 grams total fat, 25 mg of cholesterol, 40 mg of sodium, 19 grams total carbohydrates, 14 grams of sugars and 2 grams of protein, per 1/2 cup serving.
Since we do eat with our eyes as well as our mouths, the appearance of food items is very important. Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream maintains an appetizing appearance that is almost as fun to look at as it is to eat.
The base of this ice cream is white and my guess is that it is essentially peppermint – flavored vanilla ice cream. A good amount of red and green peppermint candy pieces dot the ice cream, giving it a pleasing appearance that brings to mind the winter holidays.
Taste / Flavor
If you are a fan of peppermint and / or mint – flavored desserts, chances are, you will really like this variety of ice cream. Just the right amount of mint flavor is featured in this product and it really does taste like a great, frozen version of a peppermint stick.
Too often, mint – flavored desserts contain over – powering levels of mint flavor, making it difficult to really enjoy eating the product. Not so with Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream. This frozen concoction is cool and refreshing on its own and tastes great when paired with cakes, pies, cookies and other treats.
Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream is seasonally – packaged in red, green and gold, oblong – shaped, cardboard cartons. The front label features an illustration of a candy cane with mistletoe and a holiday bow attached and the rear label lists all relevant ingredient and nutritional information. The carton is easy to open and it also re – closes effectively.
All things considered, Friendly’s Peppermint Stick Ice Cream is a delightful frozen treat that is only available during the winter holiday season. This tasty, high – quality ice cream tastes great on its own and it adds excitement to cakes, pies and other desserts. I think that this ice cream is a good item to serve at holiday parties and get – togethers. Highly recommended.
